Razing or Raising the Standarad of MUET

Raising the standard of MUET

It is indeed frustrating to learn that only a mere 36% of last year's MUET exam candidates scored Band Three (The Star, 31/3/13)  It is even more frustrating to state that this group also includes Pre-University students.  Of course it would be most encouraging if there were more students who scored Band Four.

Kelantan Revisited

Star Q

It's been more than twenty six years since I left this state.  The three years I spent there still lingers in my mind as if it was yesterday; well not exactly that crystal clear.  All those years there has definitely left an indelible mark in my life.

From Flip-Flops to Stilettos

Star Q

This year's birthday surprise came in the form of a pair of stilettos.  No, I haven't gone bonkers and started putting on a pair of the little red shoes.  Nor have I started buying stilettos for the missus because she has always bought her own pair of shoes; I have learnt the hard way that she never liked the one and only that I bought for her many moons ago.

Grateful with Mixed Feelings

Civil servants to get early annual increments in July - Nation | The Star Online

I am not one to be ungrateful for all the good things that has happened all this while in my profession as a civil servant.  As a matter of fact, no one (I guess) is more thankful than I am, not least because of the many pay hikes that all civil servants have received (at least) four times during my almost thirty years of service.  I am even more thankful when the government granted me (amongst the few) a scholarship to further my studies abroad.

The Lazy Gets Lazier

Star Q

I listened with great interest when the other day, a neighbor of mine, teaching in a nearby school, mentioning that parents will be invited to come to this particular school, go to their children's classes and help to make the classrooms more conducive for learning.  In short (sic!) he said that, the parents will be painting the classrooms, decorating them, putting up the curtains (after they have bought and sewn them themselves!), put up pictures and posters and anything else that would help the school reach that goal.

Family or Work?

Star Q

It's the weekend and you have been looking forward to it all week long.  You know you have been brave throughout the week; taking all the indiscipline and bad manners the students have to throw at you head on.  You do every thing you can to keep stress, distress and depression at bay, by keeping yourself calm under all these seemingly futile situations.  All because you have the weekend to look forward to; the two days to be with your family.

Therapeutic Gardening

Star Q

It doesn't come as a surprise to me that so many people will suddenly get themselves involved in gardening after reading a newspaper report about a prominent local political figure whose attempt at (large scale) gardening has started to bring in some profits.

After Two Years.....

Can't believe that I have been too busy to write that I have actually left this blog untouched for two long years.  A lot of thing...
